We’re back for the second half

Happy 2020! The New Year is here, and with it comes the second half of our 2019-2020 Center Presents Season sponsored by Allied Solutions. The action kicks off Jan. 18 with Broadway legend Ben Vereen, followed by Poland’s acclaimed NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic on Jan. 23, and at least 20 more performances through May from the worlds of pop, classical, jazz, the Great American Songbook and elsewhere.

For a limited time, you can still select three Center Presents shows for a Create Your Own series package and save up to 20 percent, along with other subscriber benefits.

For a taste of what Mr. Vereen is up to these days, and what kind of tunes and tales he might share with us next week, check out his interviews with our local journalists at Carmel Monthly and Current in Carmel.

New Studio Series adds three dates

We had a great time Dec. 6 when singer-songwriters Brett Wiscons and Sarah Grain launched our new Studio Series, featuring top local and regional talent in the casual and cozy setting of the Studio Theater. Such fun, in fact, that we’ve added three more performances this season:

Feb. 29 – Soul singer Allison Victoria with her band. Singer-songwriter Allison Victoria blends soul, hip-hop, R&B, folk and gospel sounds and has quickly built a strong reputation and fanbase since she began playing Indianapolis open-mic events in 2016.

April 4 – Jam-scene favorites 800 lb. Gorilla. A growing presence on the Midwest jam scene, Indianapolis-based 800 lb. Gorilla blends indie-esque songcraft with funk, jazz and electronica influences to create a driving, danceable sound.

May 30 – Indie-rockers Veseria. Led by the husband/wife songwriting team of Patrick and Jen Roberts, Veseria is an Indianapolis band that mixes rock, folk, blues and punk into a fusion that defies categorization.

With advance tickets at just $15 and free parking next door, it’s a great way to spend a Saturday night.

U.S. Army Field Band tix available Feb. 4

The Center is proud to welcome back the U.S. Army Field Band – both its Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus – for another free community concert on March 12. As we’ve learned from previous visits by our world-class military musicians, this will be a hot ticket, and supplies won’t last long.

You can claim your free tickets (limit four per household) starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Palladium Box Office off 3rd Avenue SW. Tickets must be obtained in person and will not be available by phone or online.

NUVO, Indianapolis’ alternative source of arts and public-affairs news, no longer publishes a print edition, but its photographers seem busier than ever. In fact, their stellar concert coverage offers a great way to look back on some of the fabulous artists we presented in the first half of our 2019-2020 Center Presents Season.
