Performances for Schools

The Center for the Performing Arts is proud to provide these live educational programs free of charge to local students and school groups during the 2022-2023 Center Presents Season sponsored by Allied Solutions. 

 

These multimedia matinee presentations at the Palladium will feature national and international artists and experts, speaking on subjects including science, history, geography and the arts. Available with the presentations are educational resources including supplemental content, classroom activities, discussion topics, study guides and more.

The Queen's Cartoonists

The Queen’s Cartoonists play music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation, with performances synchronized to video projections of the films to create a concert of classical music and jazz that connects with audiences of all ages. The group’s specially designed educational performances include Q&A sessions and opportunities for students to take the stage, interact with the band and try their hands at the musical instruments.

Brian Skerry: Secrets of the Whales

Celebrated National Geographic Explorer and photographer Brian Skerry has spent nearly forty years exploring and documenting Earth’s oceans. For his latest project, he turns his lens to one of the world’s most beloved animals—whales! Students will dive into the lives and culture of these ocean mammals. Discover the extraordinary communication skills and intricate social structures among different species of whales and learn what these majestic creatures can teach us about ourselves and our planet.

Lindsay Zanno: T. Rex Rises

How did Tyrannosaurus rex become the iconic apex predator of North America 67 million years ago? Paleontologist Dr. Lindsay Zanno is uncovering the answer. Each year she spends several months on expedition, scouring the badlands of western North America in search of clues. Along the way, she has discovered many new species — including some of the earliest predecessors of T. rex. Naturalization candidates take the Oath of Allegiance during a 2020 naturalization ceremony at the Palladium.


U.S. Naturalization Ceremony

For this stately but joyous and inspiring event, the concert hall will become a temporary venue of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, encompassing the southern two-thirds of the state. Students will observe the presiding judge administering the Oath of Allegiance to foreign-born individuals who have met all application criteria for citizenship, as identified by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.  The event is appropriate for 7th through 12th grade.

Filipe DeAndrade: Untamed

Filmmaker Filipe DeAndrade believes animals saved his life, and he wants to return the favor. Raised in poverty, surrounded by addiction and abuse, he felt voiceless. He related to animals because they too were voiceless, and he fell in love with photography as a way to tell their stories. Filipe will bring students face-to-face with lions, sharks, snakes, jaguars, jumping spiders, whales, and one of the rarest animals in the world—a hawk moth caterpillar, which resembles a venomous snake. His journey shows students how to find passion in life and live with intent.
