Michael Feinstein talks with students, surprises singers
The April 13 concert at the Palladium was one for the history books as the Center’s artistic director, Michael Feinstein, was joined by Maestro Janna Hymes and our resident Carmel Symphony Orchestra for a salute to classic Hollywood musicals. But that was merely one stop in a flurry of busy days for Feinstein, founder of our Great American Songbook Foundation.
Prior to the concert, Feinstein led a Q&A session for music students from Indianapolis’ North Central and Warren Central high schools, who received complimentary tickets through the Center’s KAR Front Seat program. He was joined by two alumni of the Foundation’s Songbook Academy® intensive, Sam Mulligan and Caleb Freeman (pictured above).
“There’s a lot of crazy people out there who will shoot you down, so we have to believe in ourselves,” Feinstein told the students. “Music is one of the most powerful forces in the universe. Now that you’re connected to it, use it in any way your heart tells you to.”
On April 16, “The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook” paid a surprise visit to our annual World Voice Day celebration, which invites the public to sing a song on the Palladium stage. To see photos of the participants by local photographer Rob Slaven, visit our Facebook page.
