A Life of Art

“We have art so that we shall not die of reality.” – Nietzsche

Gregory Glade Hancock is Executive Director of Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre, the resident professional dance company at the Center for the Performing Arts. He will share his journey through a life of art, relating stories of how he surrounds himself with art and how he has taken personal experiences and challenges and transformed them into beauty. He will also discuss his creative process and how he draws inspiration from the world around him.

 

About the Presenter

Gregory Glade Hancock is an accomplished choreographer, musician, composer, costume designer, visual artist, director, and producer. With Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre, he has created over 180 dance works for the company’s expansive repertoire, including such critically acclaimed pieces as There’s No Place Like Home, Exodus, The Violin Under the Bed, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, La Caza Azul and many more. He has taught dance and created choreography for companies and schools throughout the United States, Europe and India. He has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including Master Artist Fellowships from the Indiana Arts Commission and Creative Renewal Fellowships from the Arts Council of Indianapolis and Lilly Endowment.
