Position Title: Prism Project Buddy (Temporary, Part-time)

 

Position Purpose

A Buddy provides individualized support to a performer during rehearsals and performances, helping create a positive, inclusive, and empowering experience.  Buddies play a key role in supporting performers, celebrating strengths, and collaborating with staff and caregivers to ensure each performer can shine.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform the functions listed below in a satisfactory manner. The company will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

  • Attend all rehearsals and performances as scheduled.
  • Arrive for rehearsals on time and be prepared to participate in production meetings.
  • Greet your assigned performer and their caregiver upon arrival to each rehearsal.
  • Maintain a positive, energetic, and encouraging presence at all times.
  • Observe rehearsals closely to identify emerging talents, interests, and strengths, helping shape the show around each performer’s skills and abilities.
  • Collect and record data on your performer during rehearsals as directed by staff.
  • Complete and maintain the performer’s Folder, including all required materials (e.g., lyrics, lines, dance links), and provide it to the caregiver at the end of each rehearsal.
  • Escort your performer to their caregiver at the conclusion of rehearsal, share a positive highlight from the session, and say goodbye.
  • Remain after rehearsals for staff debriefing and planning meetings for upcoming sessions.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to consistent attendance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine enthusiasm for working with performers, particularly people with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow directions, collaborate with staff, and communicate effectively with caregivers.

A great Buddy is upbeat, observant, patient, and invested in helping performers succeed. Buddies help create an environment where performers feel supported, confident, and excited to participate.

 

Work Environment

This position will work in a professional performing arts facility and theater.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those required by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The company will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

  • Strong sensory skills, such as good eyesight, hearing and dexterity
  • Ability to bend, push, lift, carry, pull and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to speak and listen carefully
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms 

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a temporary, part-time position.  The temporary assignment begins May 26 and the hours for this position are as follows:

  • Orientation:  Tuesday, May 26 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • Camp weeks:  Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, May 27 - June 19, from 9:00 a.m. - 12 p.m. and/or 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Performance Day:  Saturday, June 20, from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.,  and/or 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
