Campus suspension extended through June 30

Decision anticipates continuing stay-at-home orders
CARMEL, IN – In light of the ongoing pandemic, the Center for the Performing Arts is extending its suspension of all campus activities through June 30.
The affected venues include the Palladium, the Tarkington and the Studio Theater, which typically host performances by Actors Theatre of Indiana, Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Central Indiana Dance Ensemble, Civic Theatre, Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre and Indiana Wind Symphony, as well as the Center’s arts education programs, rental events and Center Presents concerts.
The decision extends the previous suspension running through May 11. Although the state’s current stay-at-home order expires in May, it is likely to be extended, said Jeffrey C. McDermott, President/CEO of the Center and the affiliated Great American Songbook Foundation. Also, under the federal guidelines for a staged approach to reopening businesses, performing arts venues would not be among the first to reopen.
“We remain optimistic about the future and will continue to follow the daily and weekly guidance of our public safety officials, but as we near the end of our fiscal year, we need to provide clarity for our Resident Companies and our own staff on the remaining scheduled events of the 2019-2020 arts season,” McDermott said. “This is not the decision we wanted to make, but it seems to be the only responsible decision at this time.”
Although staff are working remotely and not on campus, the business operations of the Center and the Songbook Foundation continue during standard business hours. Ticket sales for events not affected by the suspension will continue online at TheCenterPresents.org.
