ATI, CSO join forces for Sweeney Todd
In a fabulous example of cross-pollination on the Center’s campus, two of our Resident Companies have teamed up for the first time to present a darkly fun weekend of music and theater.
Actors Theatre of Indiana and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra promise a fresh and visually stunning take on Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street when they present Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway smash Feb. 21 and 22 at the Palladium.
A theatrical production in the main concert hall is a bit of a switcheroo for the Center, where plays and musicals are typically presented at the smaller Tarkington or Studio Theater. This uniquely staged extravaganza features orchestra, choir, actors, singers, sets, costumes and dramatic lighting to suit the Tony-winning operatic tale of bloody revenge, with ATI co-founder and Artistic Director Don Farrell in the title role.
(By the way, congratulations to CSO and its Music Director Janna Hymes on her new five-year contract with the organization.)
You can read more about the collaboration in the Current, Carmel Monthly and Carmel Magazine.
Spread the word about Songbook Academy – especially tomorrow

Even Broadway’s Laura Osnes, who has served as a guest mentor in the annual program, believes the experience “opens doors” for young vocalists – read an exclusive Q&A with the Tony nominee here.

Songbook Exhibit Gallery open Saturday
Speaking of the Songbook Foundation, those tireless advocates of America’s timeless popular music have added Saturday hours this year to give more folks a chance to see the very timely installation in the Songbook Exhibit Gallery. Of Thee I Sing: Politics on Stage highlights the history of political themes in musical theater, from George and Ira Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton: An American Musical.
In conjunction with the Carmel Art & Design District’s monthly Meet Me on Main gallery walk, the exhibit gallery at the Palladium is open the second Saturday of each month from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call (317) 844-2251.
