If you were looking forward to seeing the brilliant humorist, writer and radio commentator David Sedaris tonight at the Palladium, keep looking forward! You’ll enjoy his witty and poignant insights even more when he appears on the rescheduled date of Dec. 3.

But if you need a little taste to fill the void until then:

Because everyone deserves a prom

High school proms are among the spring traditions interrupted by the current freeze on social gatherings, but don’t our teens still deserve a chance to enjoy their rites of passage? Anticipating a relaxation of restrictions at some point soon, the Center for the Performing Arts hopes to fill the gap by presenting Prom at the Palladium, an alternative celebration open to all Central Indiana high school seniors and their guests.

With a choice of dates, Aug. 7 or 8, Prom at the Palladium will feature a DJ and dancing on the concert hall stage along with refreshments, a photo station and other trimmings designed to foster those warm high school memories. Tickets at only $10 go on sale June 1 at TheCenterPresents.org.

New round of music for wee ones

Ms. Michelle of Shoobeeloo Music leads our weekly Child & Adult Music Class for kids 1 to 5, and lately she has moved the sessions to Facebook at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Starting this week, she returns to a popular theme, Over in the Meadow, featuring songs about flowers, frogs, squirrels and insects. So round up your toddlers, preschoolers and the whole family Thursday morning for 45 minutes of music, movement and fun!

They keep the Songbook Foundation humming

Our friends at the Great American Songbook Foundation are ringing in National Volunteer Week 2020 by spotlighting their dedicated volunteers on Facebook in the coming days.

In the past year alone, the Songbook Foundation’s volunteer core has dedicated over 2,800 hours to the organization. That's the equivalent of over $70,000 in paid professional work, but their contributions – from cataloging the thousands of LPs in the Songbook Archives & Library to facilitating weekly Perfect Harmony programs – are invaluable.

Karaoke masterworks keep rolling in

The Center’s #CPAQuarantineKaraoke campaign has revealed a wealth of talent among our friends and patrons, from singing and satire to costume design and video production. In fact, there were too many great entries to include them all in our compilation last week, and new clips keep rolling in.

What to do? Our mission compels us to continue sharing these artistic achievements with the world, of course! Today, we bring you a Green Day/John Lennon medley, a Frozen parody, an a capella rendition of Lauren Daigle's You Say, and a well-known tune from the late Bill Withers.

They'll give it to you straight

The Bloomington-born, globally acclaimed a cappella ensemble Straight No Chaser is always a big draw at the Palladium and therefore a logical choice to headline the Center’s 10th Anniversary Gala on Sept. 12.

But let’s cut to the chase: As we await the return of in-person live performances, the SNC guys – despite being scattered across the eastern United States – are presenting a new song each Wednesday on their YouTube channel. So far, the campaign has included renditions of “Lean on Me,” “You’ve Got a Friend” and even Toto’s “Africa.”
