Irving’s snow globe, Liza’s holiday cards
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Great American Songbook Archives! Songbook Foundation Founder Michael Feinstein and Archivist Lisa Lobdell are back with a new installment of In the Archives with Michael Feinstein – this time with a holiday twist!
They’ll give you the inside scoop on Liza Minnelli’s celebrity card collection, musical arrangements from Perry Como Christmas specials, and even the snow globe Irving Berlin gifted to Rosemary Clooney as filming wrapped on the 1954 holiday classic White Christmas. Watch In the Archives here!
Faegre Drinker PB&J Replay: Native American traditions
Just over five years ago, in a special children’s performance at the Palladium, Native American storyteller Teresa Webb shared stories, songs and dance of her Anishinaabe nation, indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes region.
The latest Faegre Drinker PB&J Replay includes video clips and activity ideas to help kids explore the concept of folk storytelling and its importance to cultures around the world. Check out the replay here.
Flashback: Indianapolis Symphonic Choir’s Festival of Carols
For several years running, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir’s annual Festival of Carols with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra has been a holiday tradition at the Palladium. The 2015 performance was recorded for public television, and PBS has made it available this season for free streaming. Watch the special here, as Grammy-winning soprano Sylvia McNair joins the 150-voice choir for such favorites as “O Holy Night” and Handel’s “Hallelujah” chorus. (Several current Center staffers appear in the closing credits.)
This year, marking the 30th anniversary of Festival of Carols, a new, virtual production of the event featuring soprano Angela Brown premiered at Monday on MyINDY-TV 23. Portions of the program were recorded last month at the Palladium.
