Fourth of July, backstage at “the Tark,” a tune from Michael and more
Welcome back to Interlude, your twice-a-week dose of digitally accessible arts, entertainment and enrichment opportunities!
Secrets of the Tark
The Center’s proscenium theater, the Tarkington – affectionately known as “the Tark" – has something called a "fly system" with counterweights and purchase lines and ... well, we'll just let VP of Operations Jeff Steeg explain it.
Places, Please! is a behind-the-scenes video series brought to you by Shepherd Insurance.
Because YOU'RE marvelous
Here’s another short and sweet tune from Michael Feinstein – this time, "Too Marvelous for Words" by Richard Whiting and Johnny Mercer. The song has been recorded by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Doris Day, Billie Holiday, Diana Krall, Rosemary Clooney and, yes, Mr. Feinstein himself. And notably, pianos that once belonged to Mercer and Whiting are part of the Great American Songbook Archives at the Palladium. Watch the video here.
Notes with Michael Feinstein is a series of videos sponsored by the Payne & Mencias Group. You'll enjoy songs and shout-outs from our artistic director, shared in our Interludes and on social media.
Celebrate the Fourth with a Songbook Hit Kit

The debut Hit Kit is patriotic in nature, just in time for your Fourth of July at-home celebrations! Check out the June issue here to learn about the history of Hit Kits, find musical activities for all ages, view videos from Michael Feinstein and more. Boston Pops salutes everyday heroes this weekend
The Boston Pops Salute to Our Heroes Fourth of July celebration will look a little different this year, with several newly recorded virtual performance pieces, prerecorded fireworks, moving narration and poetry read by Rita Moreno and Amanda Gorman, and recaps from recent years featuring Rhiannon Giddens, Arlo Guthrie, Brian Stokes Mitchell and other performers.
Also on board for the three-hour program – to be broadcast live starting at 8 p.m. Saturday – is the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus, which had been scheduled to perform at the Palladium on March 12.
