Usher Spotlight: Dorothy Conley

It’s Tuesday and time for another Usher Spotlight, where we recognize the dedicated members of The National Bank of Indianapolis Usher Corps. More than 300 volunteers devote thousands of hours each year to serve the community through the Center and the Great American Songbook Foundation.

This week's spotlight falls on volunteer Dorothy Conley, a woman of many interests, and we’re glad one of them is volunteering at the Center. Read more here.

Behind-the-scenes highlights from Songbook Academy

Students from 16 states connected with a team of 15 guest mentors last week for the 11th Songbook Academy, a life-changing schedule of online masterclasses and workshops. Take a look at some highlights from the week featuring Postmodern Jukebox founder Scott Bradlee, The Manhattan Transfer’s Janis Siegel, Broadway’s Ashley Park and Faith Prince, and Great American Songbook Foundation founder Michael Feinstein.

The result? Experiences like that of three-time alum (2018-2020) Grace Mozitis of Linwood, New Jersey:

This academy is a huge reason for why I have not stopped my craft. My growth as a woman and artist is greatly influenced by the staff, mentors, peers, and the week-long experience overall. The forever friendships I have gained are beyond special. To the mentors and staff of the academy, I have no words that will ever express how thankful I am for you. The most important thank you is to Michael Feinstein for creating this wonderful home for young performers to blossom. I will forever and always advocate for this program; it is really the best part of my high school experience. May the academy live on today, tomorrow, and forever.

Off-Broadway musical traces family’s fight for equality

Transport Group is a nonprofit, off-Broadway theater company that has won praise from the New York Times and other corners for its productions of new works by American writers and unconventional revivals of classics by the likes of Tennessee Williams and Eugene O’Neill.

Through Aug. 16, the company is sharing a free stream of its world-premiere musical from last fall, Broadbend, Arkansas, an epic tale that follows a Southern black family through decades of struggle, from the 1960s civil rights movements to today’s headlines. Catch it here.
