Interlude - May 12
May 12, 2020
A life in theater, a new Usher Spotlight, coloring pages, Spotify playlists and Austin City Limits
Welcome back to Interlude, a fresh batch of online arts, entertainment and cultural enrichment options curated by the Center and delivered to your inbox twice a week!
Replay: an insider's take on life in the theater
On May 6, our first-ever virtual KAR Front Seat session featured Don Farrell, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Actors Theatre of Indiana, one of the Center’s six Resident Companies. Nine Central Indiana high school and college students with interests in musical theater joined him via Zoom teleconferencing to ask questions about his own career and what the future might hold for all performers and fans of the genre.
Sponsored by KAR Global, the Center’s KAR Front Seat program invites small groups of students with interests in the performing arts to talk with seasoned performers and production professionals about the influences and experiences that brought them where they are today.

Usher Spotlight: John & Pat Wolfert
It’s Tuesday and time for another Usher Spotlight, where we recognize the dedicated members of The National Bank of Indianapolis Usher Corps. More than 300 volunteers devote thousands of hours each year to serve the community through the Center and the Great American Songbook Foundation.
This week’s spotlight falls upon John and Pat Wolfert, who divide their year between Carmel and Naples but have volunteered at the Center since its opening. Learn more about the Wolferts here, and look for another Usher Spotlight next Tuesday!
Spotify playlists fill the musical gap
We had a darn good Center Presents concert season going on when this virus lowered the curtain on us, but thanks to the magic of Spotify, we can revisit some of the great artists who did perform and look forward to those we hope to reschedule.
Reflecting the wide variety of the Center’s programming, our staff has assembled a Spotify playlist to correspond with every series from our 2019-2020 Season sponsored by Allied Solutions. This week we’re highlighting the international flavor of the Telamon Passport Series with songs from the Kingdom Choir, the Four Italian Tenors, Doolin’, Edith Piaf and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.
Enjoy our 2019-2020 Telamon Passport Series Spotify playlist here!
Now you can color the Songbook
Our friends at the Great American Songbook Foundation have joined our coloring book project and released some brand new, must-color content so you can literally make your mark on music history! Though we can’t welcome you in person to the Foundation’s current gallery exhibit, Of Thee I Sing: Politics on Stage, you can download and print coloring pages representing previous exhibit subjects including the Andrews Sisters, Meredith Willson, Ella Fitzgerald and more.
Find your favorite coloring page here. And make sure to post your completed pages on social media and tag @SongbookFoundation (or @SongbookFdn on Twitter) so we can share your colorful masterpieces!
Austin City Limits opens its archives
Having just wrapped its 45th season, PBS’ Austin City Limits is the longest-running music series in television history, so it’s no surprise those folks would come to our rescue as we endure this painful withdrawal from live music.
ACL has thrown open the vaults from its past three seasons for free viewing of performances by top names in rock, folk, country, jazz, indie pop, blues and whatever else floats your boat, many of whom have appeared at the Center. Featured artists include Buddy Guy, Willie Nelson, Trombone Shorty, Janelle Monae, Brandi Carlile, Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Vampire Weekend, the Raconteurs, Gary Clark Jr., Arctic Monkeys and, yes, even Billie Eilish.
Check out the full menu at the ACL website.
