Welcome back to Interlude, a fresh batch of online arts, entertainment and cultural enrichment options curated by the Center and delivered to your inbox twice a week!

Today: #GivingTuesdayNow

Today brings a new event called #GivingTuesdayNow, an offshoot of the annual Giving Tuesday observance that takes place during the holiday season. This global day of giving and unity aims to inspire grassroots generosity, citizen engagement, corporate philanthropy and support for communities and nonprofit organizations around the world.

If you would like to donate to the Center for the Performing Arts or one of our six Resident Companies, you can do so here. Resident Company logos at the bottom of the page will direct you to their websites. You can support the Great American Songbook Foundation here. Plus, the Giving Tuesday organization has a great collection of ideas and resources if you are looking for other ways to do your part.

Usher Spotlight: Janet Guildenbecher

As announced last week, the Center is recognizing the dedicated members of The National Bank of Indianapolis Usher Corps with this new feature, Usher Spotlight. More than 300 volunteers devote thousands of hours each year to serve the community through the Center and the Great American Songbook Foundation.

This week’s spotlight falls upon Janet Guildenbecher, a longtime Carmel resident and Center volunteer who loves the great outdoors. Learn more about Janet here, and look for another Usher Spotlight next Tuesday!

Take a virtual tour of the Songbook Archives

Our friends at the Great American Songbook Foundation joined the U.S. National Archives on Friday in a #ArchivesVirtualVisit hashtag party to give us an insider look at the Songbook Archives. Although Archivist Lisa Lobdell continues to work on site once or twice a week to ensure the Foundation’s collections are safe and sound during this time of social distancing, most of our staff and volunteers miss exploring the archive space!

Lisa put together this virtual tour for us to visit the Foundation’s extensive collections from home – and for some of you to see the Songbook Archives for the very first time. Do you have any questions about the Songbook Archives? We encourage you to comment on the video and ask our resident expert, Lisa!

Please note: Social-distancing protocol was strictly followed during the filming of this video.

Ella at 100 – a celebration of a jazz legend

From Jazz at Lincoln Center:

"Three years ago this week, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra commemorated what would have been the 100th birthday of one of jazz's leading lights: Ella Fitzgerald. Joining them were special guests Joe Lovano, Roberta Gambarini, and Kenny Washington. Now, we're releasing that concert from the vaults so you can celebrate the 'First Lady of Song' from home—enjoy!"
