SALEM, a new one-act ballet, features sound design by emerging artist Seager and a storyline that not only acknowledges Salem, MA, in its 400th Anniversary, but what could possibly lie in wait under dark futuristic, dystopian, autumn skies. SALEM will give a nod to the town's dark past, and a mirror to a future that none of us can afford to ignore.
Also on the bill is the world premiere of OPHELIA. Based on the doomed character from Shakespeare's Hamlet and featuring a haunting score by composer Cory Gabel, OPHELIA takes the audience on a journey of madness that possesses the character in a tour de force of stunning dance. Also add the return of LA LLORONA, a visually stunning work that explores the Mexican folklore story of a doomed spirit, "the weeping woman", who spends eternity wailing for her lost children after a fit of rage and impossible choices ends their lives. All these pieces fit together to create the perfect topper to dark autumn nights. Rounding out the evening is SALOME, Hancock's acclaimed piece on the beheading of John the Baptist and the psychological warfare that occurred in one family leading to his demise.
