Central Indiana is home to many talented musicians, but how does a musician take that creativity and passion beyond a mere hobby? This course offers the tools and techniques to build a career in the music industry.
Professional musician, composer and author Brett Wiscons has turned his passion into a successful career, touring the country, sharing stages with renowned artists and headlining his own shows. He sells his CDs and books through Amazon and other outlets.
In the class, Wiscons will share some of the career-building tools that have brought him success. Participants will learn about topics including recording, touring, sync licensing, branding, merchandising and forming an LLC. Each week, Wiscons will be joined by an industry professional sharing insights into their particular area of expertise.
Class Structure
Week 1: Hobby or career?
Week 2: Content/videos/cold calling/promo/booking
Week 3: Networking/marketing
Week 4: Live performance – forming a band vs. being a solo artist
Week 5: Now what? and big-picture items
Who should take this class?
Recommended for ages 18 and older, this class is perfect for people interested in furthering their careers and/or learning more about the business side of the music industry. The class will be limited to 20 participants. A minimum of 10 students is required to offer the class.
About the Instructor
Chicago-born, Indiana-based and Florida-bound, Brett Wiscons is a seasoned singer-songwriter and novelist with nearly 30 years of experience. Known for his authentic and vulnerable sound, he draws comparisons to Andy Grammer, Edwin McCain and Hootie & the Blowfish. Wiscons has performed more than 3,500 shows, sharing stages with icons like the Beach Boys and John Stamos and collaborating with Grammy winner Mark Bryan. Wiscons holds a business degree from Marian University.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that schedules change. If you are no longer able to attend the class, please provide at least 14-day notice of cancellation. This allows time to fill your space with another student. Cancellations made within 14 days of the first day of class will not be refunded.
