A revered voice in American music, Mavis Staples is a Kennedy Center honoree, multiple Grammy winner and a member of the rock, blues and gospel halls of fame. Her career began at age 8 with family band the Staple Singers, the legendary gospel and soul group that soundtracked the civil rights movement before scoring major hits with songs such as “I'll Take You There,” “Respect Yourself” and "If You're Ready.” An inspiration to generations of artists, Staples has collaborated with names like Bob Dylan, Prince, Aretha Franklin and Willie Nelson. Her 2025 album Sad and Beautiful World features contributions from Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Jeff Tweedy and Derek Trucks.
