Health and Safety Policies and Protocols

Amid ongoing concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center and its Resident Companies have adopted the following policies and protocols for the 2021-2022 season. Though subject to change as circumstances evolve, these requirements reflect public health recommendations, artist policies and the growing consensus across the live entertainment industry on how to maintain a safer environment.

If you, or others you have interacted with, have experienced any symptoms of illness such as fever, chills, dry cough, shortness of breath or sore throat within the past 14 days, please stay home.

Masks or other appropriate facial coverings are required upon entry for anyone age 3 or older who is attending events, visiting or working on the Center’s campus, including the Palladium, the Tarkington and the Studio Theater. Masks must be worn at all times while indoors, except when actively eating or drinking. This requirement applies to patrons, staff, vendors and volunteers.

Proof of vaccination or negative test

All patrons and other visitors age 12 or older must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination upon entry for any ticketed event in the Center’s venues, whether presented by the Center, a Resident Company or any other organization. The Center will accept paper vaccination cards, photocopies, photos or digital images confirming vaccination status, along with valid ID. Also, the Indiana State Department of Health offers vaccination certificates online that can be stored on a smart phone.

As an alternative to vaccination, patrons may present physical or digital proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to the event.

For patrons and visitors younger than 12, no such proof is required.

It is important to note that:

  • Some artists may require policies that are more restrictive as a contractual condition for performing. In such cases, the Center will follow the artist’s requirements, and ticket holders will be notified in advance. See below for artist-specific policies.
  • All policies are subject to change as circumstances and public health guidelines evolve. Updates will be posted on this page.

Artist-specific policies

  • Handel’s Messiah, Dec. 23: In addition to the above policies, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra requires proof of vaccination against COVID-19 for all patrons 12 and older, along with a matching ID. Proof of a negative COVID test will not be accepted as an alternative.
  • Diana Krall, Jan. 25: In addition to the above policies, all patrons, including those younger than 12, must show proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test taken within 72 hours of the performance.
  • Croce Plays Croce, March 19: In addition to the above policies, all patrons, including those younger than 12, must show proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test taken within 72 hours of the performance.

Education events

For classes and other education events involving children and/or adults, all attendees age 3 or older are required to wear masks at all times, but proof of vaccination or negative test is not required. The Center will make reasonable efforts to allow space for distancing and interactive participation when feasible. Visitors to the Great American Songbook Foundation Exhibit Gallery at the Palladium will be required to wear masks but not to show proof of vaccination or testing.

In addition, the Center continues to observe these protocols:

  • Hand-sanitizing stations are available at all lobby entrances.
  • High-contact surfaces (door handles, countertops, etc.) are wiped down and sanitized before, during and after each event.
  • All theaters, lobbies, restrooms and concession areas are cleaned and sanitized before, during and after every event.
  • Venue cleaning is conducted according to CDC guidelines.
  • Cashless payment options are available for credit cards or mobile devices.
  • Ticket purchases will be refunded in the event of illness.
