The Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras
// Monday, Jan 1, 12am ET
Conductor Masaaki Suzuki leads the London-based Monteverdi Choir and its affiliated English Baroque Soloists orchestra in an era-appropriate performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s 1727 oratorio, St. John Passion, one of the finest masterpieces of Baroque music. As founder of Bach Collegium Japan, Suzuki is a leading authority on baroque instrument performance and the music of J.S. Bach. The Monteverdi Choir, founded in 1964, has released over 150 recordings and is considered one of the most influential choirs in the world. In 2023, the Choir and English Baroque Soloists performed at the Coronation of King Charles III, with The Telegraph proclaiming, “If the Monteverdi Choir isn’t singing when I get to the gates of Heaven, I want my money back.”
