Interlude - March 26

March 26, 2020

David Sedaris - Doolin' - Piaf! - ATI and Civic - Ukulele Orchestra - Songbook Movies - ATI and Civic - Berlin Philharmonic

Welcome back to Interlude, our new email series that offers a refreshing, twice-weekly culture break during this time of social distancing. Although the Center has suspended live events for the next several weeks as we all join the fight against COVID-19, we're finding new ways to live up to our mission: to engage and inspire the Central Indiana community through enriching arts experiences.

Interlude brings you:

  • News about online performances you can enjoy at home
  • Links to great material from the artists we’re working to reschedule
  • Entertainment and education tips for homebound families
  • Peeks behind the scenes at the Center
  • Other opportunities to help you keep the arts in your life

New date for David Sedaris!

Some good news! David Sedaris' Palladium appearance is officially rescheduled for Dec. 3

Our recommendation? Use this time of social distancing to read a Sedaris novel or two (available in your library's digital collection). You'll be all brushed up before December! 📖

Doolin' - Telamon Passport Series

Considered one of France's premier Celtic ensembles, Doolin' features six acoustic musicians performing traditional and original music. Though their sound is rooted in Irish folk, they spice up the sound with elements of pop, rock, jazz and funk. From ballads to furiously paced jigs, Doolin' offers a rich palette of sound. Browse Doolin's collection of recorded songs and live performances on YouTube.

Here's a message from the band, originally scheduled to perform at the Palladium this Friday:

Passport Series Sponsor

Hi everyone. As you know, a lot of us in Europe are confined at home. As much as we would have loved to do a streaming all together, it is now impossible for us so we tried to think of something else ...

We came out with this experimental crafty homemade multicam reel and we’d very much like to dedicate it to all the organizers and audiences that we were supposed to meet these upcoming weeks in the USA and Canada.

Tell us what you think of it and have a lovely weekend. Stay safe. ❤️

Piaf! The Show - Telamon Passport Series

Piaf! The Show is a musical celebration of the life and music of legendary French chanteuse Edith Piaf, narrating the rags-to-riches story of the Parisian singer's career through her unforgettable songs, complemented by a visual tapestry of previously unreleased photographs and images of famous Parisian locations of the Piaf era.

The above video is a sampling of Piaf! The Show, which had been scheduled Saturday at the Palladium, and below you'll find a recording of the legendary Edith Piaf herself:

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain - Telamon Passport Series

Here's a note directly from George Hinchliffe's Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain:

"Sorry we can't be with you on the 29th. As a small consolation, we have just made the full stream of our 2018 NYC show available on Youtube. Enjoy!"

Formed in 1985, this groundbreaking ensemble – comprising only ukuleles of various sizes, along with the voices of its members – has become an international sensation, selling out such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House. The eight-member group blends elements of rock, classical, jazz, folk, film soundtracks and other genres into a truly unique musical experience.
